Ever Ever After at 5!

Can’t believe it’s been 5 years since I walked down the aisle, to marry the man of my dreams, or prayers rather! ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m having trouble uploading our wedding SDE, so I’ll just post the link.

Shot on the same day, 5 years ago. The exact same day of the week even–a Saturday. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was up at 3 (!!!!) in the morning, for our 9 AM wedding. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ (We opted for a morning wedding coz we had several old people guests. ๐Ÿ˜€ ) I remember trying to sleep at 9 PM the night before (with great difficulty, as I am more a night owl than a morning lark!), and being awakened by a text from our wedding OTD coordinator that she was already at the door. ๐Ÿ˜› I don’t recall feeling rested, I can’t even remember falling asleep. But the adrenaline rush was more than enough to sustain me throughout the day. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I so luv our SDE! Took my cue from Ate Grace who also chose an upbeat song for her wedding SDE. Hindi tuloy nakakasawa panoorin kahit paulit-ulit! ๐Ÿ™‚ The first time I watched “Enchanted”, I already mentally bookmarked this song for future reference. ย I was still single at that time, but I already had a vision for my wedding. ๐Ÿ˜‰ย (“Balang araw, pag kinasal ako, gagamitin ko itong kantang ito…” ๐Ÿ˜›ย )ย It was also a good idea that Terci brought the Lego bride & groom minifigs ๐Ÿ‘ฐ ๐ŸŽฉ coz it injected some fun and personality to our video. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Buti pa itong youtube video ng kanta, pwedeng ma-embed sa post. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Our wedding SDE is here.

One Day More

Don’t you just luv ย Les Miserables? There is always a song that resonates at a particular phase or major event in one’s life (from becoming friendzoned, to being patriotic ๐Ÿ˜› ).

In light of tomorrow’s national elections, I am posting this video here. God bless our nation.

“Tomorrow we’ll discover
What our God in Heaven has in store!
One more dawn
One more day
One day more!”

One More Chance 2

Just recently saw the teaser of the sequel to “One More Chance”. And now the chorus of “I’ll Never Go” keeps playing en loop in my head. Mostly it’s Erik Santos singing; occasionally it transitions to Maja Salvador. ๐Ÿ˜› I just can’t shake it off my head, and it’s becoming annoying already. They say that the “cure” for LSS/Last Song Syndrome is to complete the song until the end. Eh pero hindi ko naman memorize ang buong kanta; hindi ko tuloy mabuo-buo. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I have my misgivings for a sequel. After all, “One More Chance” was epic! ๐Ÿ˜Ž At first, I was unimpressed by the teaser. Their fight seemed over-the-top over a trivial matter. And short of pagbabasag at pagtatapon ng pinggan, it was all loud voices, rising tempers, shouting and then boom! Cue music…

But after watching the teaser several times, I finally warmed up to it. ๐Ÿ™‚ And when I let my husband watch it, we ended up laughing so hard afterwards. After all, it hit close to home.

And isn’t that what has endeared “One More Chance” to us? That the characters and their situations were relatable? The conflict was more INTRApersonal (rather than interpersonal), thus more difficult to show onscreen. It’s much easier when the conflict can be personified/objectified, i.e. other man or woman, a sordid past, social differences (“Langit ka, lupa ako.” that kind), evil stepmother, scary dragons, etc. But how can you depict the need for GROWTH and SELF-REALIZATION as an evil? It’s less tangible, but more realistic. After all, we have had more battles with our own personal demons i.e. self-doubt, fear, envy, anger… than we do with other people.

El Gamma Penumbra

El Gamma Penumbra is a “shadow play” dance/theater group from Batangas, Philippines. I found out about them through the “Pillin Mo Ang Pilipinas” (Choose Philippines) tourism campaign. I later learned that this was their performance at the Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 Grand Finals. With such an a unique and awesome performance, I actually thought they won (only they didn’t; they placed 4th overall).

Fast forward a couple of years later, and this time they are now in Asia’s Got Talent. Their audition piece followed the story of a couple in love. It merited a Golden Buzzer from one of the judges, ushering them into the semis.

While their audition piece was cute and sweet, it is their later performances in AGT that were even more touching, awe-inspiring and relevant. In the Semi Finals, their presentationย depictedย the atrocities of war. Their most recent performance–at the Grand Finals–was a touching tribute to Mother Nature.

My Favorite X-Files Episodes

With news that Fox is bringing back The X-Files, I couldn’t help but reminisce over my favorite X-Files episodes. I’ve been meaning to write about them, but I do not know how to re-introduce them. (I only started blogging in 2005, and The X-Files ended its run in 2002. The second movie could have also been a good springboard for such discussion, but I didn’t have time then. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ). But with The X-Files making a comeback (no conspiracy here!), thought now’s an opportune time to share my favorites with you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

1. The Post-Modern Prometheus.ย Mulder and Scully look into the claims of a woman who has been impregnated by a mysterious creature. In the course of their investigation, they discover The Great Mutato (mutation)–a modern-day Frankenstein “monster”. The episode is rendered in black-and-white, reminiscent of old Frankenstein films.

Why do I love it? Because of the dance scene at the episode’s end. Granted “Walking in Memphis” isn’t even a romantic song, but Mulder seemed shy asking Scully to dance with him; she was surprised, but gamely obliges. I also like the black-and-white comic book feel.

.

2. Memento Mori. Latin for: “remember (that you will) die.” Scully discovers she has cancer (NPCA perhaps?). Mulder reads through her diary, err, ๐Ÿ˜› investigates if it is connected to her previous abduction.

Why do I love it? Because of the hug in the hospital hallway. Scully was even way shorter in her hospital slippers, allowing Mulder to rest his chin on her head. It didn’t strike me as romantic, but it felt like of one of the warmest and most comforting hugs. ๐Ÿ™‚

3. Redux. Mulder fakes his death, so he could freely investigate on the government’s coverup re extraterrestrial life. He also strikes a deal with The Cigarette Smoking Man in an attempt to find a cure for Scully’s cancer. This is a two-part episode, a part of the show’s mythology.

Why do I love it? Mulder sure does not cry beautifully. ๐Ÿ˜› But for all his ugly crying face, you feel the rawness and intensity of his emotions. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I wanted to reach out and comfort him. He looked like such a lost boy. I also like the heated exchange during Mulder’s hearing.

.

4. Triangle. Mulder investigates the mysterious disappearance of a luxury passenger ship over the Bermuda Triangle, and travels back in time to 1939. There he meets the 1939 counterparts of his contemporaries. This episode’s sequences were filmed and edited to appear like one long continuous take.

Why do I love it? Because Mulder says “I love you.” to Scully. ๐Ÿ˜› Because Mulder and (1939) Scully kiss. And because of the almost perfect execution of the long continuous sequences; I especially enjoyed the scene with the elevators. ๐Ÿ˜‰

5. Chinga. Scully goes on vacation in Maine, and stumbles upon a killer doll. Meanwhile at the X-Files office, Mulder is bored without his partner. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Co-written by Stephen King. Kinda like Chucky/Bride of Chucky, but this one’s more eerie.

Why do I love it? Because Mulder proposes marriage to Scully. Even if it was out of sheer boredom, he apparently misses her. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do you have any favorite X-Files episodes? I would love to hear about them. ๐Ÿ™‚

Standby for Part Two ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The Piano Guys

Have you *heard* of The Piano Guys? They are an American musical group who doย piano and cello renditions of popular songs and classical music. I think they’ve been around since 2011 (?), but I’ve onlyย known about them this year.ย It was actually my husband who introduced them to me, who himself discovered them last year after their “Let It Go”/Vivaldi’s “Winter” mash-up video went viral.

.

He hasย recently purchased their latest album “Wonders” and we’ve been listening to it during our morning drives to work. ๐Ÿ˜‰
